HUE
For Hue, Marry The Moon wanted us to create visual effects to emulate shattered glass and watercolor brushstrokes. This would immerse the player in a painting-like experience that investigated the loss of emotion in depression. Hyperkinetic engineered a 3D shader that emulated ink bleeding physics using greyscale texture maps as well as animations to reflect shattering glass when the user interacted with certain objects.
Through a mixture of pixel shaders and prerendered animations, Hyperkinetic created an enveloping sequence where the world disappeared behind a memory; watercolors and the reverie being shattered when the user attempted to do more than day-dream. Hue was shown at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and more updates on the project can be found here!
